Da Dia Rapids

Location:  An Ninh Dong Commune, Tuy An District, Phu Yen Province.

Characteristics: This is considered as a rocky masterpiece gifted by the nature for Phu Yen.

◊ How Rocks are Formed

According to the scientists, the rocks in Da Dia Rapids are basalt formed during volcanism process from 200 million years ago in Van Hoa Plateau of Phu Yen Province, about 30km from the current location of Da Dia Rapids as the crow flies. When meeting the cool water, lava ejected from the crater hardened and cracked into vertical or oblique columns. In the world, apart from Phu Yen, there are only a few other places having this phenomenon such as Giant’s Causeway in Ireland, Los Organos in Spain, Fingal in Scotland…

◊ Unique Beauty of Stone Columns

With more than 50m wide and 200m long, from a distance, Da Dia Rapids look like a giant black honeycomb. Closer, visitors will be more surprised by tens of thousands of stone columns in shapes of hexagon, square, circle stacked on the top of each other. Through the time and impact of waves from the sea, the stone columns haven’t been separated or collapsed but have clung one after another stretching out into the ocean.

In addition to stone blocks in unique shapes, Da Dia Rapids also attracted visitors by the colors changing throughout the day under sunlight. When dawn, the black stone blocks are coated brilliant yellow. When sunset, they are also dyed red by afternoon sunlight. Therefore, each moment in Da Dia Rapids will give for visitors the different feels.

Walking along the rapids, visitors will see a puddle which is like a miniature world of shrimps, crabs, fishes, jellyfishes, starfishes. Around the puddle, there are many rocky layers stuck straight up. Visitors can lean back here to contemplate the sea. In the distance, visitors will see Bang Beach with smooth white sand bank, where visitors can swim and enjoy a variety of fresh seafood.
