Prepare for planting Flag of the 1000th year Thang Long - Ha Noi on Fansipan peak

A press conference to introduce the international tour program of conquering Fansipan Mountain and planting flag of "Thang Long - Hanoi 1000 years old" on Fansipan Peak 2010 had been held on the morning of October 22nd, 2010 at the head office of Vietnam National Administration of Tourism (VNAT) in Ha Noi.

The press conference was presided over by Mr. Nguyen Manh Cuong - Deputy Director General of the VNAT, Mr. Vu The Binh - Director of the Travel Department – VNAT, Mr. Tran Huu Son - Director of the Lao Cai Department of Culture, Sports, and Tourism (DCST), Mr. Mai Tien Dung - Deputy Director of Ha Noi DCST.

 

This is a joint activity between the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (MOCST) and Lao Cai People’s Committee at the national scale to celebrate the 1000th year of Thang Long – Ha Noi and other major national holidays in 2010; supporting the national action plan for tourism in the 2006-2010 period.

 

This is also an activity which aims to maintain the annual Mountaineering Championships to conquer Fansipan Mountain in Lao Cai Province, based on the  combination of discovery tour programs and adventure tours. The event of planting flag of "Thang Long - Hanoi 1000 years old" on the roof of Indochina will be the chance to introduce to Vietnamese and foreigners about Hoang Lien Son Range, Hoang Lien National Park and Fansipan Peak at 3,143m high, as well as reflect the hearts of people from the Northwest regions toward the Thang Long – Ha Noi.

Participants of the Climbing program will include blocs of visitors and delegated guests. The visitor bloc will consist of international and domestic tourists from international tour operators that are selected by the VNAT and Lao Cai People’s Committee. The bloc of delegated guests includes international invited guests from the Kunming Association of Climbers (China) and Tourism Authority of Thailand, etc. and domestic invited guests are delegates from the
MOCST, VNAT, Northern provinces and Ha Noi, Viet Nam Tourism Association, and journalists...

 

Prizes of the program include: Fansipan climbing Award; Awards for Photo contest including nicest pictures of Fansipan and the most impressive pictures of the journey of planting flag on peak Fansipan; Awards for good idea of developing and operating new Fansipan Discovery Tours.

 

According to Mr. Tran Huu Son, the organization board pays special attention to the works of medical, rescue, security, communications, food and drink and accommodation for participating teams. He emphasized that this is the 3rd   Mountaineering Championships to conquer Fansipan Mountain in Lao Cai Province, but, unlike the two previous times the participants were professional athletes, the participating teams this time are unprofessional. The major purpose of the program is towards the 1000th anniversary of Thang Long – Ha Noi, promoting the images of the tourism industry, the Lao Cai Province and Fansipan Mountain, at the same time raising awareness of environmental protection of the people and visitors.

In addition, there are numbers of significant activities also will be held such as the preliminary conference of 8 north-west province cooperation in tourism, the preliminary conference of three provinces of Lao Cai, Yen Bai, Phu Tho on the “Tracing the Roots” programme, opening showroom on the history, culture, manners and customs of ethnic minorities in the region...

Starting ceremony of climbing on peak Fansipan to plant the flag will be held on the morning of October 30, 2010 at the King Ly Thai To Garden in Ha Noi Capital. At the ceremony, the delegations of athletes will take part in the incense-offering ceremony and together with the representatives of Ha Noi Capital, VNAT, Ha Noi DCST is going to autograph on the calligraphy of “Long” (dragon) character.
