Thua Thien Hue tourism sector targets Thai tourists

The tourism sector of Thua Thien Hue province has designed special tourism programmes for travelers from Thailand, while simultaneously devising a plan to launch a charter flight in the third quarter of the year and regular commercial routes moving forward, according to industry insiders.

Thai tourists lead the way in terms of the number of international visitors to Thua Thien Hue province with approximately 677,000 visitors per year, accounting for more than 16% throughout the 2010 to 2015 period.

Truong Thanh Minh, director of the Provincial Tourism Promotion and Information Center, said the locality has been connecting with Thai tour operators, re-surveying tourism products, and devising plans in which to launch international flights moving forward.

He affirmed that this represents a huge potential tourism market for Hue over the next five to 10 years. At present, some airlines are in the process of making effort to resume air routes connecting Thailand with central provinces, especially destinations such as Hue, Da Nang, and Quang Nam.

In addition, carriers have therefore unveiled their plans in which to operate both charter and regular flights from Bangkok to Hue, Minh added.

Do Ngoc Co, chairman of the Thua Thien Hue Province Travel Association, underlined the necessity of launching specific promotion schemes in Thailand in a bid to attract large numbers of visitors from this market in the future.

He suggested that the province organize roadshows in Bangkok and invite Thai travel firms to attend the event in a bid to elevate the image of Hue, adding that local authorities must devise appropriate stimulus packages as part of efforts to attract Thai tourists moving forward.
